SCOPE

Civil Engineering is the art of directing great sources of nature for the use and convenience of the man”. Civil Engineers have one of the world’s most important jobs. They build our quality life. As the technological revolution expands, as the world’s population increases, and as environmental concerns mount, civil engineering skills will be needed throughout the world. Whatever area you choose, be it design, construction, research, planning, teaching or management, civil engineering offers you a wide range of career choices. And there is no limit to the personal satisfaction you will feel from helping to make our world a better place to live. It can truly be said that we cannot have a modern civilization without civil engineers.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2009 with an undergraduate program affiliated to M .G. University, Kottayam, Kerala with a sanctioned intake of 60 students, headed by Prof. M. V George. In 2012, the department started M. Tech course in Computer Aided Structural Engineering with an intake of 24 students and in 2013 expanded its domain by doubling the intake to B. Tech course from 60 to 120 seats. The department is blessed with highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members, without whom the achievements were never possible. Many of our faculty members have secured ranks at their U.G and P.G. level. Non-teaching staff members are also having good teaching and industrial experience. They are capable of handling any lab, which is very much beneficial to the students. The Department has state of the art laboratories with vast area, machinery, equipments and other facilities. In addition to high quality teaching and instruction, the department offers technical consultancy services also. Testing facilities are provided for different construction materials in Material Testing laboratory, Transportation Engineering laboratory & Environmental Engineering Laboratory. The Department has a separate library with 500 volumes of text books and a large number of journals essential and useful to both teachers and students. The department concentrates on the academic activities and gives motivation to students in cultural and extracurricular activities also.

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings.Civil Engineers are trained in the areas of Surveying, Construction management, Structural Analysis and Design, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Environmental Engineering. A Civil Engineering graduate can become a; Consulting Civil Engineer, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Contract Engineer, Contract Manager, Planning Engineer, Site Engineer, Construction Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Cost Engineer, Quality Assurance/ Quality Control Engineer, Quality Assurance/ Quality Control Manager and many more. Opportunities for higher studies are also available in allied disciplines such as Coastal and Ocean Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Remote Sensing, Construction management, Irrigati...

  • Associated with the Project Management Unit- REBUILD KERALA INITIATIVE, Local Self Government Department during December 2019 to February 2020 and successfully completed the Field Studies, Survey and Data Collection of designated roads of Idukki and Ernakulam Districts in connection with the "Rebuild Kerala", initiative for rebuilding the flood affected roads of Kerala.
  • Many of our M.Tech Students done their Master's Project at VSSC-ISRO, LPSC-ISRO,CSIR-SERC and in many other reputed R & D organisations and industries.
  • Ms. Minnu Shaji, (2017- 2021) Batch student won First prize in Smart India Hackathon 2020 Hardware edition.   
  • 20 students of (2017- 2021) Batch awarded with Honours Degree.
  • Received a fund of 1 Lakh Rupees from AICTE for SPICES Scheme to Promote Interests,Creativity and Ethics among Students on behalf of IEI Students Chapter in 2020-2021.
  • Associated with Water Resources Department, Govt. of Kerala during November 2020- February 2021 and successfully completed the Field Studies, Water Sample Collection & Analysis in the desigated stretch of Muvatupuzha, Kaliyar River in connection with the "Preparation of DPR for Abatement of Pollution&  Rejuvenation of 21 Rivers in KERALA"
  • Successfully completed the Municipal mapping of Kothamangalam Municipality as part of " MAPATHON KERALAM" Project in the year 2021-2022.
  • Successfully completed the "Classified Traffic Volume Count Survey" conducted by NATPAC in Thrissur for the project "Road Asset Management for  National Highways and State Highways in Kerala" in March 2022.
  • 3 of our (2017-2021) Batch students received The Chief Minister"s Student Excellence Award 2022( 1 Lakh Rupees each)  in recognition of the meritorious achievement in Under Graduate Examination Conducted by Universitiesin the State of Kerala during the academic year (2020-21).
