Mar Baselios Institute of Technology and Science (MBITS) was established in 2009 by Mar Thoma Cheria Pally, Kothamangalam, which is a six century old Parish Church and Pilgrim Centre, that is relied upon by millions of devotees for solace and fulfillment. The saint Eldho Mar Baselios undertook an arduous journey, from the Holy Land to Malankara, to give spiritual guidance to the followers of the church. This Holy Father was called to eternal abode from Kothamangalam and the saint’s tomb is situated inside the Mar Thoma Cheria Pally, Kothamangalam.

The church started Mar Basil School, as early as in 1936 and it has been upgraded to Mar Basil Higher Secondary School in 1998. Apart from the academic excellence of the school, it is also well known for sports and games and other co-curricular activities. After a few years, the church formed Mar Baselios Medical Mission Association (MBMMA) and started Mar Baselios Medical Mission Hospital at Kothamangalam under this Association. This hospital is now a 400 bedded-multi-specialty hospital along with a School of Nursing. Mar Baselios Dental College which is one of the top ranking self-financing Dental Colleges with BDS & MDS Programs in seven specialties was started in the year 2002 by MBMMA and Mar Baselios College of Nursing with B.Sc. & M.Sc. Nursing Programs in all the specialties was started in 2003. The Church also runs St. Mary’s Public School at Karukadam, a higher secondary school recognized by the CBSE.

MBITS is the latest addition to the list of institutions owned by the Church. The Church runs the college through Mar Baselios Educational and Charitable Trust (MBECT). From 4 branches at UG level with an intake of 240 students at the time of starting, now the institution has grown manifold with 5 branches at UG level and 4 branches at PG level with a total intake of 516. The college is situated at the side of NH49 near Nellimattom, 5 Kms from Kothamangalam town and is situated on the way to Munnar, a world-famous tourist destination and Hill Station. The College Management has provided state of the art facilities to all departments and its laboratories.
